Sometimes we are our own worst enemy when it comes to health and exercise...Exercise is extremely important to maintaining good health and living the fit and active life, but it can also be intimidating for some folks. If this is you, here are a few tips to help you conquer your fitness fears.
"I'm not strong enough..." For folks new to exercise or for those who just haven't done it in a while, the thought of attempting to perform strenuous physical activity can be intimidating. Many people have the thought that they are not fit enough or strong enough to begin exercising. Start with beginner-level workouts that you know you can accomplish, then build up slowly over time. Every time you exercise, no matter how hard or challenging the workout, you will be getting stronger and fitter than you would have been if you hadn't done it. "I just don't have time..." Most folks these days have extremely busy schedules. The thought of adding more to it can seem impossible. Many folks believe that they need to work out for long periods of time in order to see results. They may even convince themselves that if they can't devote at least an hour to exercise, they shouldn’t bother working out at all. This is simply not true. Any exercise is better than none. Shorter, high intensity workouts are great for burning fat, building muscle, and keeping our metabolisms burning high for many hours afterwards. These types of shorter intense workouts can have the same effect as longer endurance exercise on athletic performance and reduce the risk of diseases, like type 2 diabetes. “I don't like the way I look in workout clothes..." As we get older, less active, and more sedentary it's common to start packing on some extra pounds and inches that we didn't have when we were younger. We may not fit into that pair of jeans or shorts we used to love a few years ago. Maybe it's the extra weight you’re carrying that has inspired you to look into healthy diet and exercise in the first place, but it can also be a source of insecurity that keeps you from actually getting started on your health and fitness journey. Put your fears aside. Take the important first steps. Join a gym, start eating healthy, get more active. Once you take those first steps, you’ll find that those feelings of insecurity are replaced with motivation, excitement, and pleasure. You will begin to love the way you look again.Your health and fitness will quickly be a thing of pride, not shame! “I won’t be able to stick with a healthy routine..." It sounds counter intuitive, but some people don’t want to start getting healthy because they’re afraid they’ll fail at sticking with it. Make it fun. Not being able to enjoy your diet or workout will make it hard to maintain the habit. Get a friend to accompany you. It's always easier to stick with something when you have a partner alongside going through the same things you are. Want to learn more about healthy weight loss through balanced quality nutrition?
